I'm getting a gateway P-7811 which unfortunately doesn't come with bluetooth. Assuming that the laptop has the connector slot, can I add the
Dell 2.4 GHz Wireless 370 Bluetooth (2.1 + EDR) Mini-Card for Dell Studio 17 Laptop
to it? I'm asking because obviously, the card says "for Dell Studio 17 Laptop." This is the only bluetooth 2.1 card I could find though.

i wouldn't take the chances with that since you mentioned "for Dell Studio 17"
Perhaps a bluetooth dongle for your usb port?
But if you think it will work, do a bit more research on its compatiblity -
I agree with Rikimusha, I think you'll be better off with a USB dongle, something like this is pretty good:

You may also want to ask some P-7811 users in the Gateway section to see if anyone can confirm about the connector slot, some people might have opened the laptop before. -
Well I'm really looking for something that I can install internally, just so that I don't have to worry about taking it off or putting it on or someone stealing it, and also for cosmetic reasons... besides that, i'm trying to find a 2.1 module.

I believe I found the module they are using but it is only 2.0. It is a Foxconn T60H928 module. I found it by looking at the component specs for the P-173x series. Let me know if you are interested as I found a supplier and probably need to order more than 1. Here is the link http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Q106/BladeC/6003021R/6003021Rsp3.shtml

Adding a Mini - PCI card can have some complications, the most prominent one being the issue of size. The card may be a few millimetres too wide or long, and, as a result, may not slot into you motherboard properly. Also, it may be quite fiddly to get to the PCI slot, and you may have to pull out a few components to get to it.
Therefore, it's easier, and a lot cheaper just to get a cheap USB dongle. Also, your Wi-Fi network card may be in the Mini - PCI slot, and you may not have a spare one for an internal Bluetooth card. -
I think Kensington has a USB Bluetooth adapter that's even smaller.
EDIT: Here it is: http://us.kensington.com/html/14409.html
It will eat up a USB port, but otherwise you can just forget it's there. -
This is the tiny USB one that was recommended to me http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833340012
If your laptop has a memory card reader you could gtry to find one of the SD card based Bluetooth cards that were floating around for a while. -
1. If gateway has the socket, they will offer the option.
2. Bluetooth needs to have antenna pre-wired, so I blieve 90% you will not have the option for internal bluetooth.
Just buy a USB bluetooth, it is easy and cheap. And please do not buy a laptop with bluetooth or bluetooth option, if you need bluetooth. It will not work even they have the slot, but no antenna pre-wired. -
I bought this module from Dell to try, I'll let you know if it works.
