    Hi,

I own a Vaio SA with a i7 2620M and i was wondering if i added 4 GB of RAM, would it speed up the laptop or will it be negligible?

i was thinking of this one

Also, does having RAM in dual channel make a difference?

Do you mean overall responsiveness? Depends on your situation? Do have a ton of stuff open all the time? Anything past 4 GB won't make a huge difference for bootup, that will be your hard drive.

yeah i mean overall responsiveness, i usually have a ton of tabs in firefox open (like ~50), music (itunes), ocassionally running vmware and word processing
im just wondering if the cpu would be bottlenecked? thanks!

Well given that usage, more RAM will help. My i7 desktop used to hit close to the 6 GB it originally had before I changed to 12 GB. But to get that "snappy" feeling, you'd want an SSD..

Get into the most intensive usage scenario you come across regularly and check your RAM usage. If you go close 4GB, then go ahead and get more even if you do not, then you might as well wait until you get that SSD. Given the amount of tabs you have + iTunes and add a virtual machine, you probably have a high RAM usage.

how much ram does your laptop have currently? and how many ram slots do you currently have? I will assume that you have 4 gigs of ram (2x2gig sticks) in dual channel.

if you only have 2 ram slots, and they are currently filled, the only way to upgrade is to buy 2x4gigs sticks and replace your currently 2x2gig sticks. You want to keep them paired to remain in dual channel

And yes...ram in dual channel makes a huge difference.
