Hi guys a little new to all this i have an Alienware MX17 R4 with a standard 500gb hard drive and am looking to add a new SSD for my OS and games i am looking at getting a Samsung 256GB 830. My question is the 830 is 7mm thick and i believe the hard drive slot on my laptop is 9.5 is an adapter required if so can someone point me in the right direction? Many thanks

    No, not required.

Depending if a drive cage is used by your notebook - it may not even need some cardboard/plastic to make sure it stays snug.

The problem would have been if it was thicker. Thinner is easier to accommodate.
