I'm thinking about adding a gig of RAM to the A8Js I'm going to buy. What RAM do I need to add? I would imagine I would want to add a stick of the same RAM that is already in there (I read somewhere that the RAM is 1 stick of 1GB).

I was also thinking of adding a 7,200 rpm hard drive. Do I need a specific type of hard drive that is compatible with the A8Js, I picked out:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822146047
for it, but is it compatible? I read about all this SATA interface, and I'm kinda confused on what that is.

Basically I would like to know what kind of RAM and 7,200 hard drive I could/need to add the A8Js.

    Thanks

You can use any PC54/5300 or PC43/4200 DDR2 200 pin SODIMM; newegg.com is a good place to look if you're in America.

Any 2.5" SATA hard drive should work if that's what the a8js takes: you simply pull the old hard disk out and plug the new one in...the hardest part will be restoring your data.

So the hard drive I linked is not compatible? It doesn't seem like they make a 7,200 rpm SATA drive

Also, anything I'll need to change around in BIOS if I add more RAM?

if you wait until april 20th the seagate 160 gb 7200 rpm hds will be shipping for $180.

get 1 gb 5300 ram of any brand.

it is very simple. 5 bolts that are actually large enough for a regular screwdriver and a small nintendo cartridge type operation

Now that I think about it I'm gonna stick with the stock hard drive, I kinda want to keep my computer on the quieter side.

I built my desktop and I had to change around a ton of options in BIOS when I added the RAM that I did. If I add a gig of RAM to the A8Js, I wont need to switch around any options? It will just take and accept the extra gig? I always thought that it wouldn't use that extra gig unless I told it to(switched BIOS accordingly)

No changes necessary; it will be plug-and-play.

The notebook should also automatically detect that the RAM is in dual channel and change the BIOS settings accordingly.

Remember to buy RAM that is running at the same frequency as the RAM in your laptop. The 1 GB stick of RAM in the A8Js is rated at 667 Mhz (PC5300). Don't forget that it's DDR2 - putting a stick of DDR into a laptop will make you kick yourself really hard for being silly.

I would recommend you buy this. It's from G.Skill, a very reputable RAM company, and it's one of the cheapest 1 GB packages available.

I had heard the a8js refresh is in august.
There might be one in a month but theres not a teaser on it.

The a8js update for 1 month is going to be 160 gb hd and rotating web cam not santa rosa.

This information is entirely speculation based on the information for the asus forum on this site.
