Made a similar post in the dell business section, but figure answers might be more forthcoming here so apologies for the semi double post. I've got a system in my cart on dell outlet so hoping for a quick answer so I can decide to buy.

I'm looking at a system on Dell Outlet that fits all of my needs other than having the 128gb msata ssd drive.

Is there any difficulty in adding this after market? Am I right in thinking that the msata slot and any other requirements will all be present in the machine and that all I need to do is buy a 1.8" msata ssd, open the machine bottom and slip it in?

Is is possible to clone the existing HD to the msata drive? Or will a fresh resinstall be required.

Does anyone know the exact type of msata 128gb ssd drives that Dell supply with new systems? Are these all of the right size/type? Are there any that WONT work or to avoid?

^One looks like its in a case, the other looks bare. Which do I need?

    120gb drives are also fine.

    Many thanks!

The listing for the Sammy is no longer working. I would not buy a OCZ (or any SF SSD). And without knowing what Dell your talking about, it is hard to say if it would work.
As far as installation, a fresh install is prefered over a clone, because there have been many issues woth alignment when cloning, but htere are tools that can make it work. Let us know which Dell your looking at and then we can research if it is compatible with a mSata drive.

I read elsewhere on the forum that this is a compatible drive: MyDigitalSSD 128GB 50mm Bulletproof mSATA SSD | My Digital Discount

The problem I have with giving you the specifications of the particular m4600 is that I don't have access to them. Dell Outlet UK only provide partial listings of specifications and by the enquiries have been made via email - the systems are typically sold.

So I really need to know if every Dell M4600 has the slot or if there are significant disadvantages of buying the machine without the msata ssd vs waiting for systems on the Outlet that have the msata already.

All m4600 motherboards are going to remain same.
So I suggest you go ahead with purchase and add your own intel or Samsung m sata ssd.
