This may sound like a dumb question, But I dont know the answer to it:
    I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with 1GB Ram....Two 512MB.
I want to buy two 1GB=2GB
Can I sell my two 512's? I mean will any important files etc be on there? Or I can just take them out and sell them with out any worry? I'm not a computer whiz just curious.

Yes you can sell your two 512MB rams, no information is retained in the RAM when the computer is switched off (they need constant power to retain the data)

    Thanks Guys! :)

    One more question...

My laptop has 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm

When I upgrade to get the 2GB...Do I get Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at "533MHZ"? Or can I upgrade to 2GB @ 667MHZ I'm not sure what the difference in "MHZ" means..

I have a Intel Core Duo Processor T2050 (1.60GHz/533MHz) So I dont know if I have to get memory that is at 533MHZ and "Dual Channel" that matches my processor or if I can step-up to 667MHZ if that will affect my Dual Core Processing? And do I have to stay with "Dual Channel Memory", will that also affect the Dual Core processing?

I read on Dell.com that "Using memory that runs at the same clock speed as the front side bus can improve overall system performance." SO basically its better to stay with the same speed then right? I basically answered my own question.

You can upgrade th 667MHZ memory instead of 533MHZ but you won't notice any speed difference at all.

the reason you will not notice a speed difference is because your fsb is 533, and that limits your ram speed. So there is no need to buy 667 for your computer. correct me if i'm wrong

The bus speed of the E1505 is 667. The reason you might not see faster performance with 5300 / 5400 DDR2 is that the latency is 5, where the latency on PC 4200 is 4.
