Ok so i have a hp zx5000. actually hp zx5049ea. recently installed windows 7 with lets just say a few hiccups at first but i do have everything working.

Laptop came with bluetooth but no wireless. I recently purchased a wifi card from ebay. Hp 347012-001 wifi card for Zx5000. plugged it in recognizes everything. I had to buy wirless antenna cables for it as well. A black and grey wire. Hooked them up. But i can't seem to get wireless to work.

Am i missing something? I went to go Enable and it won't let me. I checked the bios and nothing in there to turn on. Device manager says no problem and when i went to troubleshoot it says

"Root Cause: Wireless capability is turned off
Detailed root cause: Radio is off (HW Switch)

Repair option: Turn on wirless capability. Use the switch on the front or side of the computer, or the function keys. "

If the laptop didn't come with these keys, how do i enable. Is there something else I need to do. Any help appeciated.

There isn't a switch or even a touch sensitive button that turns it on?

This picture from an NBR review says otherwise:

i found it mine is just blank. Just a regular cover. underneath the cover is a key on the motherboard real small that i just found. Pushed it and it works. I guess I will just have to leave on permanently or buy a key on ebay or something. Thanks for the quick reply.

I leave mine on all the time, it really doesn't matter. Unless someone you live with has a pacemaker or something. ;)

There is actually a "pin-out" on the mini pci-e that you can cover and disable the Hardware switch, that way only windows will have control on whether or not to enable/disable the card. I'll see if I can find you some more info. I did this procedure on an Acer I had because the switch was on the front and it seems like i'd just bump it and it'd turn off the wireless. Bugged the crap outta me..

N/m I just realized that the card in question is a mini pci not express. I don't exactly know the pin diagram for that.

thanks for all the replies. I ordered a new bezel cover off ebay for a few bucks. works fine.

Another hiccup i found when updating to windows 7. My sd card reader on the side. it shows in device properties that it works fine and is working fine. I guess it lists it as Texas Instruments PCI-1620 CardBus Controller with UltraMedia
Everytime I insert a SD Card in it it causes windows to freeze completely to the point of a power hard boot. any ideas. I guess i should open up a new thread but wondering if you knew. thanks in advance.
