I just got my HP hdx 18t in the mail today, and I had bought a secondary hard drive for faster speeds (Stock was 5.4k, I bought 7.2K)
But to my dismay, I need some sort of connection cable to attach the secondary hard drive.

What cable would this be, and where can I buy it?

    Thanks

You will need to contact HP to buy the interposer and caddy for the secondary harddrive. Hp and most other computer manufacturers do not include the second drive caddy and interposer, so you will have to contact HP and buy it separately.

    Chat from HP Support:

Representative: The bracket alone is about $120. The rubber cushions are $66 and the screws are $57. You may be able to find something at retail level for a better price.
Representative: I can give you the HP part numbers for the hardware if you would like.
Todd Youngblood: Ok that would be nice, thanks
Representative: The part number for the bracket is 496880-001, the rubber cushions are 496889-001 and the screws are 496890-001.

Where could I find these for cheaper, I have googled all of it but I can't find much.

    Any help is appreciated.

the screws are standard screws which you can get at a good hardware store for about $1 (They are M2, or M3 screws about 5mm long). The rubber cushions can be made out of a rubber strip which you can buy for about $5 at a hardware store.
The actual caddy, I dont know where you can get. I havent been able to find anything on it.

HP is a complete rip off when it comes to these parts. There is no way one can charge those prices for such basic things. Especially the screws and rubber grommets. They can be had for less than $5.

    Ok, thanks.

Would I be better off buying their caddy?

    maybe not
I wouldnt think its worth it. For $120 definitely not worth it.

Take the other harddrive out and take a picture of the caddy. Post the picture here, most likely the caddy is interchangeable and or similar to another model.

Usually caddy's are pretty easy to make, so you can make one if you are handy.

You can also see if it dosent require a hard drive adapter like my brothers dv8000 you can just push it in there and jimmy rig a peice of somthing behind it so it dosent slide out and tada your all set.

    HP SERVICE SUCKS.

I live in Canada. They sell HDX X16 and X18. But don't offer it with a second drive. You can't order the hard drive/bracket from the Canada site. You can order it from the US site, but they don't ship to canada. I complained to canada parts and was told there was no way HP USA can ship parts to HP Canada. So HP are selling HDXs in Canada but you can never buy a part for it in Canada.

BTW: another company does sell the bracket and SATA to whatever cable:

    It's only $40.

Whoah! Who are they selling these things to? The US Government? $57 for screws? What a rip!
