    ok i have a HP dv9000 laptop...

anyway it has an extra bay for a second hard drive. but id like to replace the one that in it already but i didnt get any Recovery software, just the rescue portion space on there now...

id like to go from one 80gig, to two 250gig...

not sure if i can do this or not..but once they are installed id like to partition them into one drive with a single partition of only about 20 or 30 gigs... just enough to dual boot XP and Linux...

can all this be done? (i assume yes, but i dont know how)

Yes this can be done, you will need a harddrive caddy and interposer for the second harddrive, if it was not included at the time of purchase.
You will have to buy two sata laptop drives, you can go up to 320gb or 500gb of you wanted for each drive.
You will need to use a free download of acronis trueimage or norton ghost, or something similar in order to image the information from your 80gb onto the new harddrives.
You will need to use g-partition or partition magic to make partitions on your drive for dual booting.
