I was not really sure where to put this so I figure this is as good as anywhere.

Alright everyone I need your opinions on this laptop purchase. Here is the link.

    Pavilion dv6t

I know the details were not great but I figured based on the specs and pictures I could figure a few things out and was fine with the purchase.

CPU - Core i5 460m 2.53GHz Dual Core (I figured this was the chip based on the fact that it said i5 and 2.8GHz is the turbo boost speed)
    HD - 640GB
    RAM - 4GB
GPU ATI - 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics
(based in this being a popular option for these laptops and the ATI sticker in the picture)
OS - Windows 7 Home Premium

    What I got
    CPU - Core i7 720qm 1.6GHz quad core
    HD - 500GB
    RAM - 4GB
GPU - 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 320m switchable graphics
    OS - Windows 7 Ultimate

So the question is should I complain? Did I get a better deal in your opinion? Should I complain because it is an ethics thing? The laptop I got was not even the one that was pictured for that matter as the one in the picture had an ATI sticker and mine clearly has an Nvidia sticker and graphics.

    Any opinions would help

    Thanks, Bean

    ebay, hmm?

From the description, you got an arguably better cpu and even an arguably better HDD (if it's 7200 RPM vs. the most likely 5400 RPM 640GB that was suggested). In addition to an upgraded O/S.

For the rest, you were simply trying to read too much into the product on offer. :(

I think that you got a good (maybe not 'great') deal @ $500 and complaining will not get you anything measurably better.

Sure, you have some valid points; but next time, when bidding make sure you ask the pointed questions first:

Is what is displayed what will be delivered?

Please send the complete spec's of the item I'm bidding on, including:

    CPU make/model,
    HDD make/model/speed
    GPU make/model/RAM
Screen resolution/type (TFT vs. LED vs. ...)
also any other pertinent detail that you are assuming and need to be clear on.

My opinion is: Enjoy your new system! and be more diligent next time when bidding on eBay (and don't take anything for granted).

Also, keep all email correspondence with the seller until you are satisfied you received exactly what you bidded on.

    Hope this helps?

    Good luck.

Does this laptop still have a valid warranty with HP (or whatever brand this is)? check on the manufacturer's site by entering in the serial code on the bottom [next to the windows product key sticker]. Is it in good physical condition? (no major scratches, no dead pixels, everything works, no odd noises coming from it, ect...)

As long as this one has a warranty for a while, then I would keep that sucker. You got a far better computer (ATI vs. Nvidia; give me Nvidia or Intel graphics any day of the week. And a quad core i7 Full Voltage vs whatever i5 it was supposed to be)

A bit of important info: a lot of ebay sellers end up using the feature in ebay called 'list a similar product' that AFAIK copies over stuff like pictures/ item specification.
I am just surprised you bought a Laptop from a ebay seller with [at the time of your purchase] only 5 feedbacks (all of which from him being the buyer); and then actually got a laptop (and a arguably pretty good one)

Many people would 'stress test' a computer like that, for a while to make sure everything is holding together very well, and that nothing was on its last legs when you got it -start a new thread for that as you'll see better responses than asking in this thread

You definitely got a worse graphics card. Depending on what you are using the computer for, this may have been an upgrade or a downgrade. Optimus graphics are complained about quite consistently on these boards, while the ATi switching is favoured more. The card you got vs the 5650 is a significant downgrade, but if your intent for this laptop is processing power, then you got a an upgrade.

    Personally, I would return it.

If you read the original description, he didn't get a worse graphics card - he got one different than what he assumed he would get. ;)

Sure he did. The laptop in the picture doesn't match the laptop he got. A 5650 is a very different card compared to a 320m. The ATI sticker shows you will get ATI graphics, not nVidia. He got a nVidia card and he got an i7 instead of an i5. That might not benefit him if he wants better battery life. The item received doesn't match the item description.

Not arguing which gpu is better, but nowhere does it say the picture used is what was to be shipped.

The description states nothing about it either.

You too are assuming just as the OP did.

Of course it is an assumption. The assumption is reasonable though. No where in their ad did they state that the picture was a stock picture or that it might appear different than the photograph. If I put my car for sale and then take pictures of my neighbours and sell mine, then I intentionally misled someone into buying my car. Unless I state that the pictures were stock, or just an example and weren't the actual vehicle. The ad doesn't state that anywhere.
