Looking to upgrade the CPU that came with my laptop. It came with an i5-2430M and dedicated ATI 6850M. I mention the graphics because i doubt the internal cooling assembly is "great".

I'm looking to swap the i5 out for an i7. I'm looking to at least upgrade to the i7-2670QM which actually did come in some high end configurations of the 7750G that share the same video card. The 2670QM has a TDP of 45W (the i5 is 35W). Since some of the high end 7750G laptops came with the 2670QM i would assume it should be plug and play in my laptop.

If the 2670QM works, the 2760QM should work? The 2760QM benchmarks a bit better and won't cost much more to upgrade, that's why i'm interested.

Anyone know if there's a difference between the two i7 in terms of heat output?

How much warmer do you think the i7 will run than the i5?

When i first got the laptop i was hitting high 70's after a couple hours of gaming. Now i'm hitting mid 80's. I think this has to do with the subpar thermal paste that most companies use. I had the same problem with my K53TA and reapplying thermal paste did the trick.
