    Hi everyone,

I just purchased a Dell 6400, and having seen what they charge for RAM upgrades, I've decided to get a system with 512MB (1 DIMM) and then just install a 1gig stick when I get it. Now, living in Canada, I need a different source than NewEgg (nice though it is). :)

Anyway, what I'm tempted with so far is this:
    http://www.cancomputer.com/index.php?sku=4151&PHPSESSID=93ef785ed03ef12959a79c7ad5a3f949

First off, would this RAM work in the 6400? (same system as the e1505, just weird because it's Canadian. :D ) I assume it would, since it's DDR2, 533MHz.

In any case, is this a good place to buy RAM, or is there a better one out there that provides memory for us Canucks? If so, any suggestions for what specific RAM to get? I've heard good things about OCZ, Kingston, Corsair...

    Thanks for any input!

You can always try the usual big box stores like Future Shop, Best Buy, Staples, etc.

You can also try www.tigerdirect.ca as well. I haven't shopped there before, but it's mainly online and friends who have bought things were happy. They may have some stores in your area.

how easy to add a ram in Dell 6400 ?
just like other models ? remove the "ram cover" at the bottom and plug-in the new ram ?
I don't know why Dell charge so much for 1 gb ram...so I wanna add 1 gb for my system..

They charge so much because alot of people don't like doing it themselves and they charge a premium to get it from them.

Yes, it is under the ram cover, just pop out the old sticks and pop in the new ones. :p

If I want to go dual channel ..
Do I have to get two identical sticks? (same size and brand)
then I will waste my Dell ram,,,, :(

Will different brand, size memory stick affect performance?

** sorry about these newbie questions...

You don't need idential sticks. It should run just fine in dual channel without.
