Following the purchase of a CoreDuo laptop where would one go to upgrade its RAM for the lowest cost possible. Which net or physical outlets would you recommend for best deals on laptop memory? What about HDDs?

If you are in the US, www.newegg.com and www.zipzoomfly.com tend to have the best deals and they are both highly rated stores.
You can also use tools such as www.pricegrabber.com or www.froogle.com to compare prices in multiple stores at once -
online is going to get you the best price, but you have to deal with restocking fee if you order the wrong thing. If it is faulty they should send you a new one without any problem. The retail places are up to 100% more expensive, depending on brand. They also have less selection.
I just bought some memory at newegg.com. do your research and make sure you order something compatible with your laptop. Best to get feedback from folks with your or similar system (i.e. same chipset/proc family). -

I am in the UK and was going to order my memory from a UK based dealer, but I have a friend in the US who would be willing to send stuff over here (it is a lot cheaper)
Are there any issues involved with sending memory from the US to UK? How likely is it to be damaged in some way? -
as long as it is bubble wrapped or some other form of physical protection, the only other problem you have to worry about is temperature extremes (and even then, you don't have much to worry about) and this time of year is pleasant. I don't think you would have any trouble. I just can't imagine that international shipping rates cost less than the difference in price between UK and US memory... good luck!
