Hey guys. My girlfriend just bought a Dell Inspiron 14R. It runs great, except that its wireless reception and connection is terrible.

It currently has a Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 card.
It receives poor signal, takes 5+ min to connect to our home wi-fi (cellphones connect instantly) and often drops connection.

Whats a good aftermarket Wireless card I can buy to replace the one in the laptop currently, which will solve the issues?

    EDIT:
Or should I go with a USB wireless adapter like this one

Maybe you should take it to another network and see how it does.

It actually does a lot better with the network at my school, but my other laptop and smartphones never have any issues connecting to the network at home, so I don't think its a network issue.

I would tell you to go with an Intel 6200, there ar eother good options available though.

I don't see how that adds up? If it works well elsewhere that would indicate to me that there's a pretty good chance there's something askew with the network. Are you running an encrypted network?

WPA2 security, with one router and one AP. I have a hard time believeing its an issue with the network because no other device has problems. I feel its the wi-fi card, and it picks up the school network well because it, well I don't know the details, but its a pretty darn advanced network. Gives speeds of 90mbps on wireless

@tijo: thanks for the recommendation. i'll look into it

I'd say shut down the encryption and see how well it works.

The problem is that the particular wireless card and wireless router are not 100% compatible (happens...).

I'd recommend trying the Netgear 3700 instead.

If it works at the school - it's your router (not the card, per se).

Tiller might be onto something, some routers don't like certain types or brands of cards. My university's APs are infamous for problems with older Atheros cards.
