The battery on my Dell Inspiron 1520 is starting to die (can't even get 1 hour of video watching on power saver setting with medium brightness - and this is the higher capacity 9 cell..). Dell overcharges (IMO) for a replacement battery.

As such, I am considering purchasing an aftermarket battery from a third party seller.. but I am wary of buying a made-in-China piece of junk that won't work (or worse - catch on fire or explode).

Can anyone suggest a reputable place where I can purchase a battery?

I bought a battery off eBay, worked fine for over half a year until I sold my laptop with it.

Some of the more reputable (but more expensive) brands are Sterlingtek and Lenmar.

They're all made in China Jeeves. But like anything, some are better manufactured than others.

BTW, I'm still searching for an extended capacity for my HDX so if anyone finds a website, please let me know.

    I'm in the same situation.

This ebay seller looks pretty reputable, as spotless feedback as you can have, specializes in batteries, lots of sales under their belt. And they offer a 3yr warranty.

Can't say much about the batteries manufacturer though but the warranty reassures me.

    6-Cell ($26.45)

    9-Cell ($39.95)

Now I just gotta decide which one I want (my old battery is a 6-cell).

You could always try Amazon, as well, there's usually a reasonable selection of after-market batteries for major brands there.

Just get one from a reputable dealer. Don't want an exploding battery.

    ^^ yeah...

Battery is a dangerous thing. Never go with the Chinese craps and never try to save money with.

An exploding battery is one thing (albeit dangerous, I agree), but when it disintegrates your computer - well... was it worth saving a few $$?

Warning: Most, if not all Dell laptops require a genuine Dell battery, an after market battery will power the unit, but the Dell power adapter/charger will NOT charge it. More DELL BS!
google it and check it out first.

The good thing about living near a Dell manufacturing facility is the dearth of component suppliers nearby. Just walk up to a warehouse and tell sell one for cheap cheap. Even better, buy them a pizza and they'll give you an open one that they can't sell new.
