So, Core 2 Duo's have been out for some length of time now. It's been popped into the macs, into the asus barebones as well as many other laptops that have either worked without bios updates, or have offered a bios update for core 2 duo support.
My question is, for those of you who bought a core duo laptop with the potential of popping in a core 2 duo, how many of you have actually gone and done it? Because I certainly haven't, and at this rate probably won't =D

I did, but for my desktop.
And I replaced a Celeron D, but I did upgrade to a Core CPU none-the-less.

I love AMD!!!

My S96J from GenTech PC came with a prototype T7200 (meaning I got mine before 99% of all other Merom users in the US) and C2D BIOS! Thanks Ken!

I don't have one simply because I don't need one.
I'm going to get 32-bit Vista anyways in the future. -
I dont think anyone need a C2D before atleast SP1 of windows vista will come out, because in windows xp the extra expense is not worth it.

Sorry if this is a lame question, but what is the difference between a core duo and a core 2 duo? My wife has a HP 1660se core duo T2300 and when you look at the Performance section of the task manager it shows two cpu's. So how is the core 2 duo better?
Sorry if I'm semi-jacking your thread but this topic is interesting!

A core 2 duo is an eighth-generation dual core processor by Intel, superceding the core duo, improving the architecture and increasing perfomance by 10 - 20%. It has 64-bit capabilities and the higher end models have 4mb cache. Come April, the santa rosa core 2 duos will come with 800 mhz FSB and might have even higher cache.
The core duo is seventh-generation, Intel's first dual core processor for mobile PCs and is very efficient at conserving heat and energy and maximizing performance. In multi-threaded tasks they perform equivalent to two times the speed of a similiar clocked pentium m. They are 32-bit and have 2mb l2 cache. -
Thanks for the info.

Only got one because I needed a processor for my son's barebone s96j. Gave him my T2300 core duo 1.66 and bought a T5600 C2D 1.83 for me.

I have no use for a Core CPU, but I hope to get a new notebook in a few years time
I want to wait till DX10 hits the notebook market, and 45nm chips. -
I guess the question to those who swapped a Core Duo for a Core2Duo: Was there a noticeable performance gain?
