    Hi,

My new Intel X-25M SSD drive makes some "static" sounds - very faint though - when its working hard. I thought SSD drives was 100% silent?

sometimes, computerchips make some faint noises when working. you can search for cpu noise on this forum and find a lot about it.

i had a samsung ssd, a very old one (bad jmicron crap, too). it made high pitched noises when accessing the data.

i dislike such noises very much. can you return it for a new one? as no one else reported that problem, it may be a defect of yours.

I don't think chips make any noise. Inductor coils may be responsible from that but I am not sure if there are any inductors in a SSD..

My ears have always been pretty sensitive and I've picked up that sound from ALL of my SSDs [including the Core, the Titan, the Corsair 128 and the X25-M]. It's not necessarily the sign of a defective drive.

It also might be due to your age, the younger you are the more high pitched frequencies you can hear.

I hear it also, but its incredibly faint. Once the fans kick in it cannot be heard at all which is alot of the time :)
The drive is a year old now and its MLC.
Remember the days when RAM used to click like a HDD!? ;)

Are you talking about the magnetic ram as in:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_core_memory
Or is there something else I've been missing out on?
