I wanna/need to get a new HDD as my 160gb is topped.

I was going to get an External one like:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145249

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148354

But now I'm wondering if I should put one together myself.

Also, I'm using an Asus G1, should I buy new internal HDD to put in laptop and put old one in case, or does it matter.

    Also should I get a 5400 or 7200

I need for Photoshop to run smoothly (in case it matters)

    So........ HELP!!!

    Thank you :)

What is your budget? I would buy a new internal and swap your old one into an external enclosure. 320GB 7200RPM drives can be as low as $50. If you have eSATA/FireWire on your notebook, you can get an enclosure with that, otherwise USB is standard. Check our Newegg's selection of 2.5" enclosures. Just make sure if your notebook is older than you might need IDE/ATA connector instead of SATA.

I would say go for a 320gb 7200rpm drive. They are very cheap. Usually zipzoomfly has the Hitachi 7K320 for like $50 after rebate.
That drive will offer better performance than your current drive and twice the capacity.

Photoshop likes fast processors and fast harddrives. So a 7200rpm drive is definitely better for your uses

The G1 uses SATA drives, so you have no worries about for upgrading

If you need more than 500GB of space, then I'd go with an external 3.5" HDD. If not, you can easily upgrade your internal HDD to a 500GB.

If you decide on an internal HDD upgrade, I'd go with the Western Digital Blue/Black. Link here

For an external drive, I'd personally just build one myself with one of the WD Caviar drives.

Ok, does it matter if its 8 or 16 cache (buffer)?

Yes. Higher cache buffers mean increased HDD performance. Generally speaking, and I may be wrong, but most 2.5" hard drives utilize 8MB cache buffers, while 3.5" hard drives use 16 and 32MB cache buffers.
