the wife's computer (the Alienware) decided to give a black screen. So after some troubleshooting I figured out it was a video related issue. after a fresh instal of Windows 7 ultimate x64, the generic video drive works just a little distorted, (does not go to the full resolution that it would with the ATI Radeon mobility HD 5870 is rated for), so after installing all of the drivers and such I went to install the HD 5870 software/driver and that's when everything (the color) started to go all wonky. there was no red where the red color was supposed to be. instead it was all orange-ish and yellowish. I have tried multiple different versions of the video drivers for the card, all with the same end result.

So am I correct in thinking this is a Video card issue or should I try to reinstall everything from scratch again?

and if I must replace the video card what one can I safely put in there.

    thanks.
