    Hello guys,

Just received my AW 15r3 i7-7820HK with GTX1070.
I did the BIOS update yesterday, at least I tried.. Everything was going ok BIOS updating but in the middle screen turned black, keyboard still lit and fan running to max, left it there for about 20-25 minutes thend.... dead!
Now when I try to turn it on AW logo flash red and 7 bips.

I tried to remove the battery, drain the power, remove the RAM press Ctrl Esc on startup, nothing.

I have seen some people managed to recover older model but I can't find anything for this, any ideas ?

I already contacted DELL, still waiting for an answer.

    Thanks !

No luck here with my 17 r3.... I really think it has to do with the intel ME backdoor expliot... the newest bios update i bet had a secuity update and it did say microcode which would be anything... but yea... I a,m trying to go insane. I wish schemetics where available for it.... I feel this bios update triggered something to allow windows to do something that made it happen like this. Ill keep you up to date if find out the cause and fix. Also i am out of warranty so goodluck if Dell Alienware decides to help me... I am still waiting ina response from a Alienware rep on dell's support community forum. let me know if you guys find anything.

I may be onto something... has anyone else report this issue with the HQ i7? anyone had this issue with the HQ SERIES i7 models? The HK supports AMT which is with VPRO... That is what the intel security thing is what i was talking about. just google "intel amt vulnerability" I may have hit the head of the nail this time on what is going on but not a solution

I've just gone through the exact same issue as the OP. My system is a 17 R4 with the i7 7700HQ, GTX 1070, and 16GB of ram, and I got stuck on the bios update with the fans spinning and the left half of the keyboard lit up red. Restarted it and now 7 beeps, with the alien logo flashing red twice, then blue once, which indicates CPU failure (I highly doubt that's really the issue). Tried just about every trick in the book- the "hold power button for 25 second" RTC reset method, the CLRP1 method, the ctrl+esc method, the hold end key method, and I'm just running out of ideas. I guess Dell just wants to screw over their customers for no apparent reason, lol. At this point it's looking like I'll have to either learn how to flash the bios chip manually or have them replace the entire motherboard for something as simple as a bios update. Crazy, huh.

Is this really the cause though? Dell's website says it can happen if you don't disable cpu performance mode in the bios prior to updating the bios. I did not disable it, so I figured that was the cause.

Yeah, I can see Dell acknowledge the problem. They should really fix it with improved firmware in the future, so this don't happen regardless of settings people prefer to use (of course you shouldn't flash with max oc). Not all use cpu performance mode in bios.
