Hello, i own a 5 month old Alienware 17 laptop and it has been working great until yesterday.
I was using the computer as usual and suddenly it turned of and also the ac adapter went black. To fix that i disconected the ac adapter and plugged it again and the computer started but with the battery temporarely disabled. In order to make the battery work i had to do that drain energy thing by pressing the power button for 30 seconds
Until then all was fine, but i started playing world of warcraft which isnt an exigent game and i felt that the left side of the laptop where the hdmi is was overheating when that side never heats up. So i run some programs to check the temps and i saw that i topped 93 degrees while before that incident the maximum was 81. Also take note that with those temperatures the fan was not at his maximum speed so i think some parts of the laptop are overheating and they are not supposed to do that because the fan cannot disipate them well. I ran tests of all the laptops components and every one of them worked fine.
So thats all i can tell you, i hope you can help me, i suspect from the ac adapter getting damage in the shutdown because it turned its light off too.

Hi,
Do you have warranty? I would call Dell up and make them send a tech as this sounds like your'e computer's overheating... You probably need to have the CPU+GPU repasted.. Report this to Dell, have them send a tech but get your own thermal paste ready for him to repaste with... Get something like IC Diamond/Gelid GC Extreme... You could actually repaste yourself.. it isn't too difficult.. Need to remove about 6-9 screws to do so.. also can you please post a picture of your temperatures?
Download a program called Hwinfo 64.. Install it, click on the sensors tab.. Take a screenshot of what HWinfo64 records for CPU+GPU temps.. Also, in the sensors tab, on the bottom left there is a small fan icon next to the timer... Click on that and you open the fan control settings..In that you can manually set the fan speed and I would set it at 4000 when in games... Click on system Auto after exiting your games.. You can also manually set the CPU+GPU fan speeds in the custom auto but read up a bit more about that..See if this helps to reduce your temps.. Also prop the backup with some bottle caps or books and this will help the temps too but in essence, get some good thermal paste and have your CPU especially repasted..
