Hi guys I’m now ready to upgrade ‘‘this beast of a machine. Had a look at the forums and know that the best GPU upgrade is the gtx 980m. This is my current hardware:

    i7 4700MQ
16 GB Kingston hyper x (upgraded by me)
    Nvidia gtx 770m sli

I’m going for the 4940MX as I’m not much of an overclocker. Two gtx 980m’s in sli and also add another 16GB ram while the other 2 ram slots are accessible. Now for my question, is there anything else I need to be aware of before going for the GPU swap? The seller is going to flash the gpus for me (master / slave). Also going to mod 2 heatsinks for the 980’s as my current ones are only 75 watt. Will it just be plug and play or are there going to be other things I need to do for this upgrade to be successful.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

You will probably have to be on the latest Bios and EC version and you will have to most likely mod INF files in the Nvidia driver for the the new GPU's to be recognized by your machine. Also, there is a chance your HDMI port wont be HDCP compliant. I just upgraded to the GTX 680m and now my HDMI doesn't work. Nvidia control panel, says the GPU isn't HDCP compliant.

But, don't let that steer you away from doing the upgrade. You will like the performance boost.

Your best option is a gtx1070.
