    Hi guys read a few posts on here regarding ram upgrade on the Alienware 18 but still not sure of which memory to buy. First of all I'll list my current specs;

    i7 4700MQ
    8GB Samsung DDR3 ram
    750GB HDD
    Nvidia GTX 770 x 2

    I've been looking at upgrading the ram. Wanting to buy the Kingston Hyper X but I've seen 2 different ones. I want to buy 2x 8GB sticks but have seen the 1.35v cl9 at 1600MHz and also the 1.35v cl11 1866MHz memory. I know the 1866MHz is compatible with my laptop and is also the correct voltage but with it being cl11 don't know if it's compatible. I know cl9 is supposed to be better but would the cl11 be ok? I'm just wanting to take my exsisting memory out and swap it with 16GB even though I know my laptops capable of having 4 memory modules I'm not so confident with taking apart the Alienware to get to the other 2 slots. All feedback appreciated in advance.

    Buy with a full 100% return (no restocking fee) policy and simply test both in your machine.

    Faster (i.e. 'higher quality') RAM like the 1866MHz model you're considering is where I would be concentrating my efforts on. CL9 vs. CL11 make little practical difference.

    (There are more posts in that thread where I compare more systems with better/upgraded RAM too...).

    Kingston Hyper X RAM will work... You need the DDR3-L version, 1.35V... 1600MHz/1866MHz will work.. 2133MHz might work but not as straightforward...
