Hi,
I have just finished upgrading my M15x. I am currently running a 970m with the latest driver, 359.06. Everything seemed to be working fine at first glance, but I began noticing that certain areas of the screen were discolored. For example, desktop icons would have little green or blue stripes on them. Windows that should be pure white are instead teal. In rendering video, dark spots are red instead of black.
At first I suspected my new graphics card was to blame. To test this theory, I connected my computer to a monitor using a VGA cable, then using Google Chrome Remote Desktop. In both instances the display looked completely fine with none of the strange display errors present.
I then began to suspect my LCD cable. I had been a little rough near the hinge trying to put the computer back together and thought maybe I had loosened it or bent it. I reconnected everything (including on the screen-side connection) and the problem persisted. I also ran the computer and wiggled the LCD cable but this did not produce any change in the display.
The computer still displays these problems when booting in safe mode.
I am worried about the possibility that the connection to the LCD on my motherboard is damaged or that my GPU output to the screen is somehow being tampered with.
Does anybody have any ideas on what this problem might be? I'd like to be able to rule out my GPU as a problem because I can only return it for a few more days.
Thanks!

Do you have another video card to test with? If another video card is displaying fine, then I would guess there's a problem with the 970m. You might want to post this in the Alienware M15X forum.

Confused as to why you touched the lcd cable to upgrade the gpu?
You changed the wifi card?
Anyways Kosti is correct. A faulty card can output fine to secondary and fail to primary. I would recommend sending the card back and get a replacement to be on the safe side.
