OK so i have an Alienware M17xR1 that is about 6 years old now. It still runs but it runs slow. I bought it used and refurbished and haven't personally upgraded any hardware. Is it worth bringing it back up to date, and what would i need to replace to get it to an almost new state, or should i just get a new laptop? I am not a very computer savvy person but i am mechanically and electrically inclined so replacing parts, whether soldering is required or not, will not be an issue. I just dont know what to do from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A six year old platform should be used as-is until a major component quits.
Put your hard earned money towards a current (or more current) setup - and in six years we'll be having this same conversation.
With your new system up and running; think about donating your old setup to a student/etc. or selling it outright on ebay or such.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
There is no soldering required, M17x R1 uses socket P PGA Core 2 Duo/Quad/Extreme processors. How do you define slow (slow booting, locking up, freezing) as throughput issues are usually hard drive limitations. It can take up to a QX9300, but it is quite pricey. Q9200 is a pretty good quad core option for that plat form.
