    Welcome to notebookreview,

Have you tried cleaning your optical drive?
Many times the optical drive will fail if the lens is dirty.
If you have some rubbing alcohol, a few q-tips and 2 minutes, you may be able so save yourself from buying another optical drive

    Open the optical drive.
Put some rubbing alcohol on the end of a q-tip and clean the lens (small glass like piece about 5mm in diameter)
Clean with a gentle swirling motion

If the drive works, you just saved some money

If not, you can buy another optical drive
