I didn't know where to post this, so i thought this was the most appropriate place. I am looking to buy a barebone laptop and build it myself. The thing is i want an aluminum laptop, and i cannot find one anywhere. I was wondering if anyone here knows where i can find one.

    Thanks!

Well that should tell you something. Building a laptop isn't like building a desk top. At the moment there aren't enough parts manufactures to offer as much variety to build anything near the quality that you would get buying it from a manufacturer. Although it can and has been done, for the moment, it will be bare bones at best.

Nevertheless, I do remember seeing the laptop case for sell in one of my periodicals. Though I can't remember if it's aluminum? Still, I'll look for it and post if I can find it.

Incidentally, I hope you've analyzed the component compatibility and warranty issues. These are the greatest negatives with any home-built computer.

    Good luck!

I know all about that. Ive built both my own desktops and laptops. And although you may not get a warranty on your whole system, generally each part is covered. I also know that there is not a huge market for barebone laptops, but i was just curious to see if anyone has been able to find something that i may have overlooked.

If you are talking about an entirely aluminum case, then I can't say I've ever seen one on a barebone or a retail model for that matter. Most manufacturers tend to integrate some aluminum panels into the design but the majority of the case is usually a form of plastic. The closest you will get as far as I know are the MSI barebones models. They have an aluminum palmrest cover and aluminum LCD lid. However, you should really rethink the barebones thing. You'll get a much better price point with a complete system.

I like building my own systems. Its fun and i enjoy it. Are there any other companies other than msi that do aluminum?

If not, perhaps you've identified a hole in the industry that needs filling; you certainly seem to have the enthusiasm. If you also have a fabricating talent, just add the capital and you can open up shop. Really!

The good news is, even if your business fails, your aluminum is 100% recyclable! :)
