So i'm upgrading my cpu and I currently have a choice between a quad P920 at 2.8 ghz and a duo P520 at 2.3 ghz. I'll be gaming a little ( mass effect II, combat arms etc..) but mosttly but mostly multi tasking.
So witch is betterfor me, the P920 or P520 considering that the quad core is double the price of the duo. THx

I think you got your numbers wrong, the P920 is 1.6GHz >.>

That being said, what's the graphics option with your laptop? That will matter more if you plan on playing games more so than your CPU. All in all I'd say just save the money and get the P520 and stash the extra money towards something else.

Honestly why not save just a bit more and get the P930, its 2 GHz or the X920 at 2.3 GHz as they will be more future proof.

I have an ati hd 4250, but I found an p920 selling with 2.8 ghz. These two are the only two cpu's that fit into my socket ( s1g4)

Could you post the link? According ot AMD's own site the P920 is 1.6GHz( link). There is no 2.8GHz mobile quad core from AMD.

Aside from the fact that the desktop CPU needs a heatsink that's twice as thick as your notebook?

It consumes 95 watts while the mobile one takes like 45 watts. It would melt you laptop with in minutes.

I'd still take the laptop version X920...it will kill the P520 any day of the week.
