So, I'm planning a getting a Tegra 3 Android tablet specially the ASUS Transformer Prime to hold off until decent Windows 8 tablets become available.

I might even grab a PS Vita when it's out too but my ultimate plan is to get a decent Windows 8 tablet to my liking.

    Worth it?

Well as a doorstop I would say a brick is cheaper, but a plain old rubber stop will give you the cost AND lack of scratching that using a tablet as a doorstop would offer, so especially good for wooden floors.

Seriously it depends entirely on what you intend to use it for.

I currently own a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and HP Touchpad. My next tablet will probably be the Windows 8 Samsung Galaxy Tablet. :)

Yup, I wouldn't bother with Tegra 3 if you already have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 wait for Windows 8 tablets.

Oh, I'm going to be using the tablet mainly as a mobile browser, video player and gaming device (occasional headphone music listening).

If the tablet serves good as a gaming device I mean get a better gaming library then I'll hold off on a PS Vita and jump right into Windows 8 tablets.

Buy an Acer Iconia Tab (it is excellent, I have one) and install Win 8 when it comes out. Win 7 is usable until then.

Thanks for the suggestion, though I believe the ASUS Transformer Prime with Tegra 3 is of better value than the Iconia W500 with C-50. Not only is the CPU/GPU faster on the Prime but the overall the tablet is more useable in terms of touch input response time, 8MP camera, Android OS + market place and more mobile (slimmer profile).

By the time Windows 8 tablets are released (Q3 2012), I think I'll get a new tablet with hardware made specifically for Windows 8 instead on going with a Iconia W500 right now which is really just a NetBook on a tablet shell then upgrading to Windows 8.

The real reason for the thread is because Black Friday is around the corner and I just know the first gen ASUS Transformer with Tegra 2 will go on blowout sale maybe for $250 or less which is about half the price of the newer Transformer Prime but with a slower CPU/GPU and other features. I believe, ASUS has announced that the first gen Transformer is upgradeable to Android 4.0 which maybe good enough for me to hold off until Windows 8 despite the fact it's only a Tegra 2 tablet.

I don't see what the point of buying a full tablet is when you can just buy the playstation vita. it has the same hardware just a bit smaller screeen:

    4 core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore
Memory 512 MB RAM, 128 MB VRAM
    Display 5-inch OLED multi-touch capacitive touchscreen, 24-bit color, 960 × 544 qHD @ 220 ppi
    Graphics 4 core SGX543MP4+

its equivalent to a asus prime but it costs half as much. In fact I don't know why i bought a blackberry playbook.

The screen is like 4 times bigger. That's probably a big selling point. They're not even in the same category of devices. The Eee Pad probably has significantly better battery life too.

I wouldn't buy any of the Android tablets you mentioned, or a Windows 8 tablet (vaporware at the moment). The idea of buying a tablet based on specs is very "old-school computer nerd" thinking, when people buy computers based on specs.

The real way to evaluate a tablet is based on the user experience. And right now, the tablet with the best user experience is the iPad because of its large library of tablet-specific applications.

The only advantage that an Android-based tablet has is that it takes fewer steps to side-load video and music onto an Android device. If that isn't a major concern for you, then you'll want an iPad.

It's a bit different in the android world though, the specs are there the same way specs are used to determine the price/performance in an android phone.

you can buy a 300$ android tablet but don't expect it to perform like the latest 800$ android tablet. (same with buying a 100$ android phone and expecting it to perform like a samsung galaxy SII).

good thing here is you have options to choose from based on the needs you have :)

but yup I do agree the best user experience in a tablet for now is the Ipad but android is catching up. at the end of the day, the consumer still wins by having all these options at his/her disposal :D

Not trying to offend anyone but get an android tablet now regardless of specs and got angry everytime a new app or game is announced that will not be available on android or your specific tablet. Its not like a pc where you can almost run anything with different os, emulators,...
