For those who have a TL-60 and and maybe have used a TK-53 processor how much performance gain have you seen when playing games under Windows XP? I just ordered a 1501 as a portable way to play my RTS strategy games like Age of Empires III and Civ 4.

I ordered the 1501 with the TK-53 and the standard 1GB of memory for $449 from Dell. :D If the performance gain is huge I might call Dell if it's not too late (in production) and upgrade the processor.

Changeing the CPU is not a big upgrade for games. The graphic card is what the performance mainly depends on, 2nd more important is the ram.

The TK-53 is a 1.7GHz CPU with half the L2 cache of the 2.0GHz TL-60... not sure if it's worth turning your $449 notebook into a $549 notebook. Probably not. AMD CPUs aren't nearly as cache dependent as Intel CPUs are thanks to AMD's integrated memory controller. Let your great deal be a great deal :D.

If you're going to spend more money I'd go with the Inspiron 1521, which gets you a better integrated GPU and assorted other goodies, but that seriously raises the price. They look pretty neat though.

That's what I was thinking. :D If I have to i'll just turn down some of the details in the game.

I don't think the CPU is going to cause you to have to turn down details. Somthing else maybe but not CPU.

    A2 Rocks!

That's good to know, but for a $449 laptop I can't complain too much. :)
