I can upgrade the Ram memory for my 5+ IBM Thinkpad Pentium III 600X 500mhz from 448 to 576. It currently has 3 slots, one with 64 Ram which I don't think I can replace or access and 1 with 128 Mg that, if I recall, I added when I purchased the machine 5+ years ago. About a year and a half ago I added a 256 Mg in the third slot to yield 448 Mg RAM. I was very happy with that until I got Norton Internet Security, which in the 2005 version is an unbelievable memory hog. My machine freezes a lot and I am pretty sure it has to do with that.
Would it be worth it to toss the 128 mg ram and upgrade it 256 for a total of 576 mg Ram?
Does anyone think that will be a sufficiently significant upgrade?
I found an IBM community site that gives all kinds of info on upgrading various old ThinkPads but I didn't want to bother posting queries, etc. unless the additional 128 mg Ram would make a difference.
Do people think it is worth it?
(I might be able to find out how to access the 64 mg Ram but I doubt I can upgrade that. That was how the machine came standard.) (Actually, I can confirm that the the 64 mg Ram is non-removeable.)

You are probably better off getting rid of NAV'05 - it is a system hog. That is one of the reasons I switched away from it.
Try Avast Home Edition 4.6 - it's free, and hardly takes up any system resources. My system is much faster after getting rid of that. -
AVG is another good free virus system. I don't think the additional ram will help all that much. If you want better perfromance, a faster hard drive will help more than the memory. 576MB is the max for the 600x. The 64MB is probably soldered to the motherboard and not removeable.
