    Well, I have page filing disabled (I'm sure it is disabled, and it has been so for several months); but like I said when I put more or less ram in my system the amount of free hdd space varies by the size of ram I removed/ installed (maybe if you or someone else can try it and see: check your hdd usage, shutdown, remove one of the sticks of ram, start Windows up again and see what your free hdd space is at)

    I'm not entirely sure it has to do with page filing, but it makes sense

    you are funny. I recalled a RWJ show about women 500000% sure about who is the father :).
    Win+R then type powercfg -h off. It is hyberfil.sys. If you use hibernation mode then do not do this and you will always lost this reserved place for RAM

    Indeed it was that; I did not know about this before (and I don't use hibernate) so this is great, 8GB more disc space!! :)

    I just assumed page filing was involved because it changed when ram changed (and I didn't know about the hibernation file), so page file was the only logical option (from what I knew)
