Here is my biased opinion (most opinions are) AVG free I use. Why I like, it is free, it updates itself (usually everyday or two) not annoying just a little screen telling you it is updating and installing no adds or things to annoy ever. It does not slow my computer down overly, it can scan my email very fast so I am not waiting too long. It just does not seem to slow things down making me wait for it to do it's thing almost invisible. Not a resource hog. Is it the best? AVG probably thinks so, I don't care, it is good enough and out of sight. After using paid anti-virus I see no reason for most people to. This is just as good as any that you likely have heard of. I also use Windows Firewall I know not the best but it is adequate and comes with OS. I also use Windows Defender free download I think comes with Vista, it monitors the security of my computer and alerts me if something needs attention. Ad aware is free spyware protection. That is one way to protect yourself for free. No way all of these are the best but certainly good, good web and sharing of files only with trusted people and sites especially exe does as much as the best protection applications. I played on line for over five years with out anti virus and never got one. Common sense is the best protection. Oh and I finally got a virus and decided common sense and protection is better than either by themselves. The older grumpy :)p) poster above would of typed hello and welcome to the forum along with his link but his arthritis :)p) makes it hard to type. So on his behalf and from me welcome to the Forum! :D
