Not sure if this is the right place so feel free to move it mods. I'm looking to get a new system if a buyer comes through for me so this time I'm going to get a custom system or a very nice prebuilt. I was looking at the MSI GT725/7 but it seems that you can't get them in Canada (fired them an email to check if they will eventually be available here). So can anyone recommend a manufacturer available in Canada (so I don't need to pay any massive customs fees or anything).

These may not be the companies that you are looking for, but Dell/Alienware will not incurr customs fees.

I was looking at Alienware, but I'm waiting for the 4850/70s, plus the price is kinda high, but if there's no other place I'll bite.

I payed $2,900 CDN for my M17, I suspect it'll get a bit higher when the 4870's roll out.

The new Dell XPS 16 is out, and it's a pretty solid performer. I played around their website and I was able to get a really solid configuration for ~$2,200.

I was looking at the 4850, but anything else would be fine too since the 48xx will push prices down (this is the biggest reason I want to go ATI).

Shouldn't their not be any sort of fees for buying something from the United States? Isn't that what NAFTA does?

Nope. We still incurr duty fees if the US seller declares a dollar value on the sale.

    notyou, what's your budget?

Up to about $2k since it's likely that I'm going to have a buyer for my current laptop.
EDIT: I was looking at Alienware (maybe Dell) since I'd like to get something with at least a 4850 (or Nvidia equivalent, but this won't likely happen since they're more expensive).

You could prolly get an M17 or an M15x for around $2,300 if you tried.

On my AW system, I saved $400 due to free S&H as well a $200 off coupon code; enter 'CAPROMO' at the checkout.

EDIT: I was just about to customize an M15x for $2,000 after the two discounts. 9800GT, T9300, 120GB, 1GB RAM (you can upgrade that for pennies yourself), 1440 x 900.

Have you look at VoodooPC. They are a subsidiary of HP computers.

Located in Canada and manufacturers custom PC. They price stuff roughly the same as Alienware.

They have many Asus notebooks with alot of pre-configured options, but also some CTO options as well. ;)
    And they ship to Canada.

You can have a look at Sager. Sagers make powerful gaming notebooks with a better price than Alienware(and they have CTO options as well). They have Canadian based resellers if you wish to purchase it in Canada.

There's Eurocom in Ontario and AET solutions in Quebec. Both of them have higher prices than their US counterparts, but you can have them pricematch sometimes.

There's also pro-star if you want sicne they combine all the fees for Canadians in one package.

@ahl: the OP doesn't want to pay duty/border taxes hence his desire to buy in Canada so I don't think gentech wouldbe a good option, unless they're Canadian based and pay the duty taxes for you lol :p

The promo is added automatically at the check out. You'll see -$xxx.xx, and if you want the extra $250 off, then apply 'CAPROMO' for a total of -$400. I don't know when these promos will end, so you might wanna act quick.

But yeah, you can get a decently spec'ed M15x for ~$2,000 so experiment at the checkout at let us know.

EDIT: Oh yeah, make sure you're on the Canadian site. I don't believe the American site has free S&H.

    Huh?

EDIT: I'm waiting for the 48xx series since it should be better and cheaper than nvidia's stuff. If not, it'll at least push prices down so I could save a couple hundred $$$.

So, I'm looking at Eurocom right now and the M860TU is looking very good.
EUROCOM M860TU Montebello; 15.4-inch; Widescreen; WSXGA+; 1680x1050 pixels; UltraSharp; Glossy Surface (I think this is the best size, not too small but enough for eye candy)
    VGA Technology 512MB GDDR3 Nvidia GeForce Go 9800M GT; 16x PCIe; DX10; NB9E-GT2
    Upgradeable Processor 2.0GHz T5800 Intel® Core 2 Duo® Mobile; 800MHz FSB; 2MB L2; 45nm; 35W (will swap with another I have)
    Memory Configuration 2GB; 1x 2GB; DDR3-1066; PC-8500; 204-pin - 1 SODIMM (will upgrade myself)
    200GB; SATA-300; 7,200rpm; up to 3Gb/s; 16MB cache; 2.5-inch
Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g/n Intel® WiFi Link 5300; up to 450Mbps; WLAN Mini Card
Bluetooth for Wireless Devices Internal Bluetooth V2.0 + EDR module
Choose Your Warranty Plan 3 Years Return to Factory Depot with 3 Years of Tech Support

Comes in at $2380 after tax + shipping. If I can get them to chop $300 off before tax that'd be mint. Anyone think they would do that? If so, how, do they have techs you can order through?

Anyone have any experience with price matching from Eurocom?
