So I'm planning to buy a new hard drive for the lappy in the next few months to replace the current 60 GB (I know, I know) and match my 160 GB external. Looking down Newegg's list, I'm wondering if there is anything I shouldn't buy? I know that some of you could easily get into an argument about HDD brands :p but I'm just wondering if there is any brand or model in particular you think I should definitely stay away from.

anything that is taller than 9.5mm. Not too common but they are out there.

Maybe in a few months, you could get a decent SSD for a decent price, take that into consideration.

Otherwise, there isn't too much to recommend you stay away from. I wouldn't recommend the Seagate 5400.5/6 series over the WD Scorpio blue, WD hands down there.

I agree bro. In a few months crazy things could hit the market. Perhaps cheaper SSDs, or 1TB drives, who knows? So far there is no reason to pick 5.4k drives over 7.2k, etc.

So don't worry just yet. I would say try to keep up to date with current developments so you can be ready when some news on price or capacity break out. At least prices are regular drives are dropping fast. There just a post about 500GB laptop drives at 7.2k for something like ~$80 at the Bargains Forum.
