Well, I made the mistake of getting an 80gb 5,400k HDD when I ordered my lappy, only to realize I wanted something faster. Im hopefully gonna be getting a 100gb 7,200k HDD, in a while but for now I wanna stick with my 80gb 5.4K HDD.

    1. What disk defragmenter is good? What version?

I really dont want to spend more than $39.

    2. Any other tweaks to speed up HDD performance?

I don't know if you're coming from a desktop or not but i think you're going to find that 2.5" drives in general are not going to be that horribly fast. Even the 7200rpm versions don't begin to compare to the newer 7200rpm desktop drives. The 100GB 7200rpm isn't going to offer much if any noticeable performance over the larger 120GB and 160GB 5400rpm drives. The seek time will be better but the transfer rate will be the same or better on the larger 5400rpm drives. The best thing you can do to improve performance is move up to 2 gigs of RAM so that you aren't using the page file much on the hard drive. What brand/model 80GB drive do you have BTW?
