Hey guys I have a few questions about this processor:

    1) Is this processor no good for any new games that will be coming out? I don't want a laptop for gaming but will this suffice for casual stuff? Will I be able to play any new stuff that comes out in the future if it is at low-medium settings?

The only reason I want to play games on it is because I may aswell dabble a little if I can when i'm bored. Not the main reason for getting it and don't care about using low-medium settings

The graphics card it will be with is a 256mb 8600M GT (GDDR3) and with 3-4GB of RAM.

    2) Is this plenty fast enough to run Vista Home Premium and:

    Photoshop CS2
    Visual Studio 2005 / 2008
Some very very very very casual video and audio editing

    3) Would a system with the specs mentioned Absolutely blitz the system in my Sig (The old acer w/ integrated gpu). Am I going to notice a major boost in performance between the two machines for:

the above tasks and just general browsing etc as the Acer can be a bit slow(ish) for these tasks. I know the answer when it comes to games because the integrated GPU in the Acer can't handle much other than stuff like Worms hehe. It struggles to play Sam and Max point and Click games sometimes ;-)

Just for reference the specs would be:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5750 (2.00 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)

    Geforce GO 8600M GT - 256mb - GDDR3

    3GB DDR2 667 RAM

160GB 5400RPM HDD (Enough space for me)

That CPU should be okay....Though most games today do have their recommended specs (or at least minimum) as 2.0-2.2GHz C2D, so it should be fine with games....!! For photoshopping and audio/video editing, it will be good too....though you will get a slightly better performance with a T8300..!! (I do all this stuff with a Celeron :D)
It should blitz the Turion ML-34 in CPU-intensive tasks (tasks which utilize both cores), not sure about games, because the GPU plays the main part in the smooth running of games....And it should run Vista fine..!!

But I would advise you to upgrade to a T8300 or a T9300, if possible, as they will run cooler and provide a better battery life (and are said to be a 'Bang for the Buck' :D), and provide a considerable increase in CPU-intensive tasks, but a not-so considerable increase in gaming....

i'd think about trying to locate that same configuration with a T8300 CPU

but the T5750 should be OK.... i'd just prefer a CPU with a FSB speed of 800Mhz,,, but i have a feeling that either will be a decent improvment over your current system (not sure how much better though.... since i have no knowledge of the AMD cpus...

wish i could be more help,
    bigO

Hmm a T8300 upgrade costs an extra £105 and i'm kinda at my budget to be honest.

The acer is rubbish for games because it has integrated ATI X200M graphics processor lol.

Will these specs run Vista smooth as butter for general computing such as web browsing, email, msn etc even if I am running Vista?

Oh and the Turion-ML34 is a single core processor...does that help in identifying how much better the new system would run compared to it? Since i'd be going from a 1.8 single core to a 2.0 dual core, does the dual core-ness of the new cpu make much difference or is it all about comparing the clock speeds and cache etc and the cores don't matter as much?

Yeah, it will be fine..!! I had been running Vista with a 1.6 Celeron.. :D

If you are looking for a generally faster windows experience (such as quicker loading and booting), you should consider a better HDD..!! (from the 7K200 family or the WD 320GB 5400RPM or any other with similar specs)....

Hi...is T5750 good for basic browsing? Basic browsing includes normal web browsing, watching videos, movies online, play DVDs, listening to music, watch youtube, etc. I dont play games...To upgrade to T8100, I have to pay $100. will there be a difference in performance or slow down using T8100 or T5750 since T8100 operates in 800mhz and T5750 operates in 667mhz? Am planning to buy a HP DV2700t special edition. Any feedback in this regard is appreciated. Thanks.

That will be plenty of power for what you are doing. It would be nice if it has 3GB though. Vista takes a lot of memory.

With respect to those tasks, the T5750 is fine....The 133MHz inc in FSB won't affect the overall experience by much..!!
Invest those $100 in a faster HDD and more ram....!!

My current configuration is 14.1 display with
    T5750 processor,
    2GM RAM (2DIMM),
    Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X3100,
    250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive,
HP Imprint Finish (Verve) + Microphone + Webcam,
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection,
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support,
    6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery.

I dont have an option to choose 7000RPM hard disk. is my configuration good enough? Any idea of experience with HP support?

Thanks. I will go ahead with 3GB RAM and T5750 processor that saved me another $50...

It's good enough for what you want to do with it.

You can always upgrade to 3 or 4GB and a320GB/7200rpm later down the road.

250GB 5400rpm will be quick by all means, and quiet too..!! If there is an option to upgrade to 320GB 5400rpm, may consider that as well....as the increased data density = better HDD performance....
