Are there any other types of hybrid drives. Maybe with a 16GB or 8GB SSD component?

The XT is the first, as far as I know, consumer Hybrid. If a marketing success though I am sure it will not be the last..............

would be nice to get an 8GB version that caches writes on like 2GB of it and caches read on the other 6GB

yup, or dynamically caches writes as it needs to. great if it's non-volatile cache, but I would imagine it would eat a lot of power if done in the wrong way.
