A few others here advised me awhile back to get an external hdd for my data storage, and I'm seriously considering it. However I would prefer one with a write-protect switch or jumper, not just hardware encryption.
Does such a thing exist? I'd prefer a 2.5" drive, but willing to get a 3.5" if I must. I've searched quite a bit and can't find anything definitive.

We've had this come up a couple times, but I think the general consensus has been that it's pretty much a dying or lost technology. Here are some older threads on the topic.

Thanks for the reply, I'll look through those.
It's unfortunate that it is a dying technology. I think it's still very relevant today.

Not the best option, but there are a few externals with a power switch, so you could just turn it off when not in use...of course you could unplug the USB too in order to accomplish the same goal.
Any external HDD's with a write-protect switch?
