Silly me, I should've asked this before asking about 500GB prices.
Have there been any news regarding 750GB / 1TB 2.5" HDDs?

It's entirely possible for manufature to make 750GB or 1000GB 2.5" hdd right now easily. They already have the technology to make the hdd. They probably don't want to release it just yet because the market might not be ready yet.
You can fit maximum of 3 platter in 9.5mm drive and 4 paltters in 12.5mm ones.
an example hdd which has 3 platter design in 9.5mm form factor is Samsung spinpoint m6. Since manufacture already have 250GB platters, it's easy for them to stack 3 or 4 platters to make 750-1000GB hdds. -

yeah, 750GB in standard format (9.5mm) is just a matter of time. I think they will be announced very soon.
1TB in standard format (max. 3 platters in a 9.5mm case) may take a lot more since it will require a totally new tech for platters (333GB/platter for 3 platter design or 500GB/platter for 2 platter design). Currently the highest capacity is 250GB/platter.

I would much rather want SSDs drop in price than see +750GB 2.5" hard drives hit the market, but that's just my preference.
They may be waiting for the 500GB hard drives to lose attention before releasing larger ones. -
Bear in mind when they do initially surface, their price will be set sky high...

I got the 500BG and it's near full, so I'm wanting to upgrade myself. My ThinkPad's SATA controller is capped. The fastest SSDs do nothing for me. Besides I'm happy with the performance of my Seagate.

I really should upgrade to a 7200rpm hard drive before I start considering a SSD. -
Any news on 750GB / 1TB 2.5" HDDs?
