I recently bought a second hand laptop from ebay. It was claimed to be an compaq presario laptop. But there is no compaq logo printed on the computer and there is only just a Compaq sticker stick to it.

So I couldn't figure out what model does this laptop belong to. I uploaded the picture of this laptop. You can see the compaq sticker is going to drop either.

Any one know the model of this laptop?

If this is not a genuine compaq product, how can I prove it?

    Thanks,

I would think the bios would give you that information,or check for any serial or model numbers on bottom of laptop and run them at compaq web site to see what comes up.

I have seen a lot of Compaq computers but never seen this model. It does have a Compaq like design with the rounded touch pad.

Enter the Bios configuration. There should be a system info screen. Does it list manufacturer or model or anything like that? Who is the maker of the bios. If you are confused take pictures of the screen and post them.

I have seen a toshiba laptop that had a compaq lid on it.
Theres no telling what components that laptop could be made up of. the hinge cover in particular looks very odd...

    Thanks guys for the help.

Yes, the hinge also looks broken, and the seller didn't take photo for it when he sold it.

When I turned on the laptop it is giving some error message and the keyboard is not responding at all. I guess the CMOS battery need to changed. That's why I want to know the model name and buy the battery for it.

I uploaded the screen and the back of the computer, any experts please help me to figure out what kind of laptop it is.

I really upset to buy a fake compaq laptop(looks like) and the seller is not telling the truth.

    Thanks,

    Mitac 8080

Though honestly, it looks like some generic OEM design that could go by plenty of other obscure names.

It's got 256MB of RAM and the bios is from 2003. Can I ask how much did you pay for it?

It cost me around $100, no harddisk or OS sticker, 256MB ram. The AC adaptor is also an OEM product, it has loose connection with the laptop. The laptop will turn off if you move it or even turn off when you touch the keyboard sometimes.

I ordered another cmos battery to replace the old one, still the same problem. Now I suspect it's the motherboard or other problems.

Sigh..., on ebay some new laptops only cost $500 more...

BTW, what does it mean for Compaqsaurus?

He's being funny, like your laptop is so old it's a dinosaur. But in all seriousness i think you made a bad deal,to much money for a older laptop with to many problems,if i was you and i couldnt return it i would chalk it up to experience and not put any money into the laptop.maybe you could resell it for parts.
Im not sure where your from but i might try CL to get a cheaper laptop, atleast you could keep it local and see first hand what your getting,or the classifeids here would be good choice too.
Also sites like this would be a good start to ask about a laptop for your needs and also to ask people what they think of a purchse you might make,is it as good deal or not.

+1. That 2003 notebook is a very bad deal for $100. I don't think you could part it out to salvage your costs. Highly recommend you return it on grounds of false advertising and faults. Then look for a core2duo Inspiron which may cost $100-$150 more, but will be one or two gens old tech. Can seek more specific advice in the "what notebook should I buy?" forum section.
