Wow, you wait for a TL-58 owner, and then two turn up in the same thread. :D If yours is idling around 48-50c then that's much more what I had in mind for temps of a 65nm x2 cpu.

Don't suppose you have any quick feedback/benchmarks results handy do you? I saw your Wprime result in the other thread, which I thought was a pretty impressive time.

Sorry, I meant the stable one.

I know, and I do appreciate that, but its always good to get multiple opinions from different sources, especially if you are going to drop £400 on a laptop.

Plus if R4000 keeps his at stock speeds then I'll have an idea of what to expect from stock -> OCed if I decide to overclock mine in the future.

Hehe, this has turned into the Turion 64 x2 Benchmark thread! :D

I'm surprised there isn't a comprehensive AMD vs Intel thread here, nothing competitive and flamebait-worthy, just something to give an impression of how they compare across a variety of applications. (ie, 3dmark 05, PcMark05, WPrime)

(Maybe there is one, I just haven't seen it! :p )

Maybe we should move or create a new thread for our benchmarks in case since we are off topic right now

Will now try to run at 2.4 GHZ

My cpu shot up to 68C when running the test at stock speed. Any idea where yours was at that time?

    I'm using Core Temp........

I cannot check my temp at 2.4 Ghz but at 2.25 it is around 75
(what is the size of your laptop?)
    will check again

Here is mine at 1.9 Ghz(almost the same score), I noticed that there is a big difference in a overclocked state than stock state scores

Sounds like the Acer has a better cooling solution than the HP, but even if my laptop was idling 48-50c and hitting 68 under load I'd consider that pretty good!

If at 2.25ghz, and in the Philippines, it is hitting 75 under load then here in the cold old UK it should be around..... 3c I think :p

For comparison, my Pentium M 1.7ghz's PCMark 05 score is 1998, and my CPU-only score is 2693.

Yep, the dual-core cpus definitely have an edge (especially on Vista with so many processes running).......

Your laptop has more airspace so your processor is cooler.

Here is my temps at 2.25 Ghz it reached 74 actually(temp is at the bottom right)

There seems to be a fluctuating score because I am downloading something right now

It is actually 11:20 in the evening right now, I live in a mountain in a city called "Antipolo". The air right now is cooler than in the afternoon, temp is about 27 degrees.

I think the main reason for rising heat is of course the size of the laptop

On a side note: When I first ran the full battery of tests, the cpu went up to 73C during the video encoding sequence.

If I had been overclocked, who knows how much higher it would have went. ;) :D

    Then why don't you overclock???

It is very easy, I just slide the bar a little then "poof" overclocked to 2.4Ghz

I meant that I would be concerned about sustaining those higher temps through an overclock, since many HP machines (including mine) have been diagnosed with failure-prone system boards due to overheat conditions.

Oh that is something new, then I should probably tell my sister not to overclock her CPU.

And maybe I should undervolt her CPU just in case.

I know it is for the early dv2000/dv6000 models, but not sure about the tx series. You can find out by looking up the latest BIOS update for the machine in question. If it says anything about "adjusting fan algorithms", then it is probably one of them........
