I don't think the circuitry is capable of measuring time, let alone recording it. It isn't really required for operation. I can look at the circuit board of a fairly new Inspiron battery, but I won't be able to get back to you till sunday night because I'm going to the beach for the weekend.

There's a software you can use called battery bar... its tell you how much of your original battery capacity you have lost and how much time is required to charge the battery or how much time is required for the battery to discharge fully..

    http://osirisdevelopment.com/BatteryBar/

i use this software and it helped in telling me loss in capacity of battery etc so i say go for it.

That software needs to have historical data for the battery in question so it can't really help him in this situation.

Batmon can be used to monitor the health of your battery cells. Other than that, based on the standard warranty, new batteries (from the day you bought) should last 1 year at 24/7 usage. Get more out of this time frame, you are the lucky person. Manually checking tool - per se.

    cheers ...

Thankfully, my Thinkpad monitors battery life. How else would I know that it's on it's 104th cycle since I got it in July? :p

I've been using my notebook for 3 years now and have built-in battery meter to gage how much battery is left.
If you're thinking about your battery "meter" you can scan for similar applications.

SIW gives you a wear level figure and a bunch of other properties
