My daughter has damaged the cord on 2 AC adapters for her laptop in the last year.
Both times the cord, at the point where it connect to the laptop plug, has been broken, though you can't see the break.
I realize that these can be fixed but is there any way to prevent this?
I was thinking that some sort of reinforcement at the plug might work. Any thoughts?
Thx

Used as a laptop with the power cord hanging down?
The best prophylactic I can think if is to buy a roll of electrical tape and wrap some round the cable where it comes out of the plug. Put several layers right next to the plug and decreasing number of layers for a few inches along the cable. The objective is to have a gradually varied stiffness between the plug and the normal cable.
You might also want to investigate how your daughter has the power adaptor connected to the computer during use and see if you can modify the arrangement. Perhaps an AC extension lead can mean the AC adaptor can be placed so the cable doesn't get stressed.

You also might politely ask if she has been yanking it out by the cord, or gently pulling by while holding on to the plug. If she is young enough, she might not know that she should not yank on the cord.

make her start paying for things she breaks?

My family and I have owned at least 20 laptops over the years and have never had an issue like that.
I think perhaps your daughters habits could be changed.
Any way to protect the AC adaptor cord?
