1280 x 800 is pretty good for word documents and internet. But I'd really like some extra vertical real estate. But the 1680 x 1050 is wicked small. Is the 1440 x 900 a good compromise or is it real small too?

1440 x 900 isn't bad. Text isn't not too small, but it's not too large either. On a decent LCD, it looks very good.

I think my all time fav resolution is 1280 x 1024. What you guys' fav resolution?
-
Tough question to answer, since the size of the display matters too. If given a 13", I'd want 1280x800, a 15-17" lcd then 1440x900 I think is fine... maybe 1680x1050 on the 17".

1280x1024 dosent work well with a widescreen though. After using my 12' @ 1280x800, my old 17' ultrasharp @1280x1024 look blury. I its no where near as sharp as my truelife.

It's all personal preference, you'll have to go look at some high resolution screens to decide yourself.
WXGA+ (1440x900) on a 14" will still have things bigger looking than SXGA+ on a 14" (standard ratio), WSXGA+ on a 15.4", and WUXGA on a 17". Find any of those and if you think it's okay than WXGA+ 14" will be fine too.
I would prefer WXGA+ on a 14", but i'm use to my WSXGA+ 15.4" screen. -
I love WUXGA on a 17" screen or bigger, but if you get a smaller screen it'll be tougher to read. WSXGA/WXGA+ is perfect for a 14" screen IMO, and WSXGA+ is great on a 15.4". If you start getting much higher than that for me it's tough to read without increasing the DPI.

Meh. I have a 17 inch 1920x1200 screen. At max resolution, everything can look REAL small. But you can keep your resolution and make the text adn stuff bigger by upping the DPI.
Right click desktop--->settings--->advanced-->change DPI setting. -

For a comparsion, you have to go to your local dear to see how it small side by side. I know that no all the 14.1" models have 1440x900, only some of them. If someone can take a pictures at the same size LCD screen in different resolution side by side, it will be great!!!
Cheers
Anybody seen 1440 x 900? too small?
