I know that nVidia's PCI-E videocards don't respond well to RivaTuner adjustments, but has there been any success in turning a GO7800 into a GO7800GTX without a hardware swap? A little OC and unlock 2 quads and it should theoretically work...

Keep in mind that there's usually a reason why a card has pipes disabled, or is clocked lower. It's usually (but not always) because of defects. These defects might lead to plain crashing, or it might be more subtle errors that you don't really mind seeing (or that you don't notice, or that you don't realize are due to your card being modded). But there's usually a reason why it isn't enabled from the factory.

Occasionally, a card is sold as a cheaper version simply because that's what people are willing to buy, but it's much more common that the card simply can't run satisfactorily at the higher speed or with more pipes enabled.

Yeah, I'm aware of it, but I've unlocked and overclocked almost all my previous cards without issue. One step at a time, as me pappy used to say. It just so happens that the usual tricks don't work for the mobile GeForce cards, so that's why I was asking if anybody knew of more advanced techniques that do the job.
