    Hi
I have a 7mm 256gb Samsung 830 SSD in my thinkpad X220 notebook, however i'm running out of space quickly so want to upgrade to a ~500gb SSD (yeah i know i was stupid for not buying the 512gb version in the first place). Anyway i don't have any issues with the samsung 830, however i'm thinking if i go for the 480gb Intel 520 SSD instead of the Samsung 830 512gb, i may get better battery life on my notebook? I understand both SSD's are similar in terms of performance but the Intel is signficantly less power hungry for disk writes than the samsung. I currently get around 7-8 hrs battery life on my thinkpad with extended battery, i just feel i may get more juice with the Intel SSD. Has anyone made such a jump and did you notice any improved battery life on your notebook? Yes i'm aware that intel 520 480gb version only comes in 9mm but i believe the spacers can be removed to fit 7mm bays so not a big deal.
    Cheers :)

If you're constantly using your storage subsystem 'hard' then yes, the Intel 520 series will be a better choice with regards to power consumption.

But also keep in mind that capacities greater than 240GB on all Sandforce based drives will give you LESS performance than the 'optimum' 240GB versions will.

If considering the 480GB/512GB capacity SSD's; the best overall would be the Crucial M4 512GB SSD imo at this point in time. And depending on your actual usage (storage subsystem-wise) should be even better power-wise than the Intel 520 Series would be. And they're available in 7mm size too. :)

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.
