Hey all. Bit of a new comer to the world of laptops so the more advice the better please!! So i've just bought a new toshiba L300 satellite notebook and already i'm asking questions about it!

Firstly, does anyone know why when sitting there doing next to nothing with one explorer page open on, say Google, it racks up about 10%-30%, maybe even more, on the the CPU usage rating?? This seems far too high.

Also, what are handles and why do I have over 42000 at this moment in time compared to my friend with the same laptop who has about 18000, and why do they keep on increasing?? Is this bad??

Finally, this brand new machine takes far too long to start up from cold in comparison to others I have seen, and this concerns me as I haven't even done anything to it yet, i.e installations and downloads?

Am i stressing too much or should I be genuinlly concerned?

    Cheers

    Obiwan!

the best way to figure out what is consuming CPU time is open task manager (CTRL + Shift + Esc) and see what processes are use all the time, vista like to eat around 5% doing next to nothing...
