Are aftermarket batteries usually made very crappy and unable to hold charge?

Manufacturers don't make batteries for old models, and any leftover unused batteries from 7 years ago wouldn't hold a charge anyway.

My k53ta battery now only lasts 20 minutes before shutting down.

I'm afraid to buy a new battery for it after my experience with aftermarket camera batteries.
The aftermarket camera battery died very quickly with very few uses, while the original Canon battery is still going.

laptop batteries for old laptops are very cheap, and a lot of them brag about being "Grade A"
    but I'm suspicious.
Spend $20, charge a few times, dead.

@link626 in my experience aftermarket batteries deteriorate faster, but that's it. I only purchase max capacity ones, though.

My experience too (I just bought a replacement for a Clevo P170EM and its back to 3-4hr runtime and the heavily used 9yr old Dell it replaced has its 3rd generic ebay battery now dead, my point being that 40 buck batteries giving 2yrs each is an acceptable cost really).

Go for a seller with good ratings, more sales and that takes returns, they are less inclined to be selling crap

Lithium ion batteries deteriorate even when stored optimally so a many years old OEM battery would be toast by now anyway. Expect everything for sale to be rebuilt for a 7 yr old model by now.

$40 battery lasting only 2 years is pretty awful.

how many times did that battery get charged in the 2 years, if you estimated?
