I haven't seen much writing about the "Crucial M4 CT512M4SSD2BAA 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)" drive any where online. Even on Newegg.com, where it is now being offered for $399, most of the reviews seems to be pointing towards the other model (exactly the same specs), "Crucial M4 CT512M4SSD2 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)".

My plan is to run a couple of virtual machines (via VMWare Workstation 8) while I'm on the road (no access to my desktop). I have already ordered 16 GB of memory in order to upgrade this laptop.

MAYBE have Diablo 3 installed for some entertainment or one or two other games installed... but this is not top priority.

I read in general from some articles stating that the larger the SSD the lower the performance. I think it was Tom's Hardware or one other site that stated the power consumption for these larger drives are on par with a 5400 RPM mechanical hard drive. I know 7200 RPM hdds are more power hungry than the 5400 RPMs so I hope that SSD is much better no matter the disk size.

In any case, just curious if anyone has jumped on the current deal for Crucial M4 CT512M4SSD2BAA? It's going for $399.99 on newegg.com right now.

    Good deal? Thanks.

    CT512M4SSD2BAA: Desktop 3.5" to 2.5" adapter included
    CT512M4SSD2: Drive only.
    CT512M4SSD2CCA: Data transfer kit included.

As far as i can tell, only differences.

Think the larger the SSD, the faster the writes will be, see: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/355?vs=425. Faster overall write speeds, reads remain largely unaffected honestly.

Thanks for the rep. Now just enjoy your new to be SSD. I have never looked back since my first one a few years ago. And just a year or so ago, that sized drive was about $600 or so, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, a SSD is something that you don't really know what you're missing until you get one, but once you go SSD you can never go back.
